In this challenging climate of Northwest Colorado, for several months of the year we can grow healthy food in our garden and greenhouse, perched on the side of McAlpin Mountain at about 8000 feet elevation and with wonderful southern exposure, rich alpine soils, and natural spring water.
Naturally Grown, Delightfully Fresh is our motto.
Naturally Grown . . . We grow our salad greens and vegetables naturally, using no synthetic chemicals or substances of any kind. We take special care to welcome all life into the garden—toads, snakes, hummingbirds, insects, as well as most other creatures who like to eat our produce too (PORCUPINES ONLY: NOT WELCOME!)—to ensure that the vegetables grow in a balanced ecosystem with a lively soil food web. Healthy soil means healthy plants, and healthy plants mean healthy people!
Delightfully Fresh . . . We constantly explore methods of getting the delicate and delicious salad greens and homegrown vegetables to you quickly after harvest. Although fresh vegetables immediately begin to lose some of their vitality upon harvest, careful postharvest handling is key: keep 'em cool and humid--and get them to their final destination, your plate, fast. You can eat a salad fresh from our garden the same day we pick it!
We specialize in gourmet greens such as salad mixes, heirloom lettuce mixes, arugula, Asian greens, edible flowers, culinary herbs, and hardy heirloom vegetables. (Be sure to taste each leaf of the salad mix. There just might be something in there you have never seen or tasted before!)
We are completely solar-powered and snow-melt-fed! We try to get all the resources we need to grow produce from within the bounds of our property. However, sometimes a little well-rotted animal manure from the local ranches helps!
